I had my lovely friend Lisa Laura write this article for my How To Meal Prep EBook. I was trying to put into words how to create a vision board and all the thought it takes to make one. As I struggled to put the words down I remembered Lisa guided me and my friends on a step by step exercise on how to create a vision board..not the physical part of it. The heart & soul behind it. Lee taught me how to be specific with what I want and how to ask myself-the inner most self- how I am going to get that.
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board is a visual aid of your deepest desires and life goals. It’s a representation of how you want your life to look and considers all areas. It’s YOUR tangible, VISUAL roadmap that represents your dreams, goals, and the life you’ve always imagined. There’s a reason why vision boards work. They add clarity to your goals and desires. They also ignite good feeling emotions which keep you motivated and positive. Motivation, positivity and overall joy are keys to your success. When you are vibrating at a higher frequency, the more you will attract things and experiences that are beneficial to your wellbeing. The same goes for a lower frequency, when you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed or unhappy, you will attract the like. You can see why vision boards are such crucial tools, if used correctly. This is why everyone from athletes to multi millionaires have proven them effective.
Have you heard of “The Secret” or The Law of Attraction?
It’s true that our thoughts become things. Think of thoughts like magnets. So when we have dominant thoughts they start attracting like forces, people, circumstances and things into our existence.
It’s the idea that because of our connection with a “universal energy ” our thoughts and feelings have the ability to manipulate this energy to our benefit.
According to “The Secret,” If our thoughts are negative, we attract negative things. If our feelings are positive, we attract positive things. The essential message of “The Secret” is that we all have the power to determine our own destiny. We can all create our own reality. As we apply the “law of attraction,” (aka vision board as one tool) we can be who we want to be and have everything we want to have.”
Our bodies and minds respond strongly to our five senses, especially visual stimulation. Think about when you watch a sunset, a baby laugh, an elderly couple holding hands, an exciting movie. They all make us FEEL a certain way. The point is to create ways to feel these good feelings often.
Dr. Joe Dispenza said it best when he explains how thoughts are the language of the brain and feelings are the language of the body. If we recondition our minds and our bodies with better feelings and thoughts, we truly can have whatever it is we desire. Personal growth work and tools like vision boards are a great first step to do that.
As you represent your deepest desires with pictures and images, you will actually strengthen and stimulate your emotions! And your emotions are the energy that activates the Law of Attraction! So it only makes sense to seek dreams, big or small, that evoke positive emotions and energy.
The problem is that most people never reflect on what kind of life they actually want, instead they let life happen to them. So good for you for putting your foot down and taking a stand for the life you want.
Think about it this way.. It’s kind of like entering a relationship with someone. If you never ask your partner or friend for anything, you can’t get mad at them for not giving you what you want. Similarly, you are in relationship with the rest of the world, with life itself. In order to get what you want, you have to master the art of asking … asking for the things that are aligned with your purpose here on Earth, aligned with your calling. Ask and you shall receive. So the key to receiving is to first, ask. And in order to ask … you have to figure out what you truly want
How to create one?
Physical: Using a posterboard or your preferred piece of paper, gather images from magazines, print them out from the internet and then paste them on your board.
Online Collage: Scope out pictures on the internet using stock photo sites like pexels.com, unsplash.com, or pixabay.com. Save them to your computer and upload them to either picmonkey.com or canva.com using their collage feature. You can save this image to your phone, desktop background or even print it out
Virtual Vision Board: Use imovie to make your vision come to life with video, photos and music.
How to use a vision board.
Use it every day! You can use it a part of your daily meditation but it’s important that you are consistent with it.
A vision board is meant to be looked at, absorbed, embraced and stepped into, very often.
Visualization and meditation are proven ways to shift your mindset and ultimately transform your inner and outer world.
Steps to use with your vision board:
- Get quiet and still using your breath, look at your vision board. Step into the scene you choose to focus on. Feel yourself there. What’s the atmosphere like? Who’s around you? How do you feel?
- Visualize, visualize, visualize
I know first hand how challenging this can be. It took a while for me to see this working. I had such a difficult time at first with visualization, that’s where my virtual vision came in handy!
